Novak Djokovic is copping a tsunami of backlash after the Serbian tennis star admitted to conducting an in-person interview despite knowing he had tested positive to Covid-19.
There was a precedent sent in Serbia during the early stages of the pandemic where several Serbs who tested positive were handed jail sentences of up to three years for not isolating for the required 14 days, while more recently rule-breakers have just been handed a fine.
In the transcript, when asked why he was travelling to Australia, Djokovic said: "I'm a professional tennis player and the main reason for me coming to Australia is participating in the Australian Open in Melbourne Victoria.
World No 1 Djokovic flew to Australia with a 'vaccine exemption' and arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday, January 5, but was denied entry into the country after nine hours at the airport.
Nadal now has 21, with his two contemporaries stuck at 20.
The storylines that revealed themselves as the fortnight went on were almost too hard to believe, and cast aside any thoughts or discussion about those who were not in Melbourne: An Indigenous woman who had the hopes and expectations of a tennis-mad nation on her shoulders was saluted in emphatic fashion -- not losing a set on the way to her famous Grand Slam title.
